Mitchell Automotive was founded in 2010 by Angus Mitchell, a third generation Adelaide mechanic.
His passion began at age fourteen while tinkering on BMW's in his father’s mechanic workshop in the 90s after school and during school holidays. He completed his automotive apprenticeship in 2004 and worked as a mechanic on Alfa Romeo's, BMW’s and other European makes before heading to Mercedes Benz Adelaide as a factory trained technician.
With a deep understanding of cars, Angus is a man of his word who believes in value for money and aims to ensure his customers have no surprises. Outside of work, he is deeply involved in historic car racing and is on the management committee of the Sporting Car Club of South Australia, spending time as a volunteer. Angus has a passion for club level motorsport and you will regularly find him competing at Collingrove Hill Climb and participating in track days and sprint events at local circuits in South Australia.
The Mitchell History
Murray Mitchell, Angus's grandfather, ran a motorcycle sales and repair business from the 1950s to the late 1970s before opening a home wear store in Fullarton.
His motorcycle shop was located at 91 Glen Osmond Road, and his advertisements of the day stated "honest, fair dealing is my motto, and a satisfied customer my aim at all times".
Andrew Mitchell, Angus's father, ran a business called Andrew Mitchell Auto for about 30 years from the 1970s.
His shop was located on Belair Road in Hawthorn and specialised in European vehicle servicing and historic racing cars.
The Mitchell's have built an honest reputation over the last 70 years, are down to earth and love what they do for a living.
Our Team
Angus enjoys working with like-minded people, so he has a checklist of must-haves for anyone he brings onto the team. These include: a passion for cars, mechanical skills, willingness to listen and learn, and the ability to take feedback.
All work is overseen by Angus and we don't separate you from the mechanic. You have the freedom, to talk directly to the mechanic to gain an understanding of exactly what they might have discovered or experienced when working on your car.

With the many years of experience at Mitchell Automotive, diagnosing an issue is simply a process of elimination. No matter what the problem, we'll get to the cause of it quickly and efficiently.
European cars all have their different quicks and common issues, which we have many years of experience in dealing with. We rely on state of the art, dealer level, advanced computer software in-house to provide insight on wiring diagrams, coding and diagnostics. We also offer software updates for most makes and models.
